Will there be a sweat check at the start line?
There will be a clothes drop at the start line staging area provided by UPS. Re-useable UPS race bags will be provided for your things and we will mark it with your race number. We recommend no valuables be left in your bag. Clothes can be picked up after the races at the finish line area. We are not liable for any valuables left in your race bag.
Will there be medallions for all that finish the half and full marathon(s)?
All marathon and half marathon finisher’s will receive a beautiful commemorative medallion as they cross the finish line. A realistic mock up of both our full and half marathon medallions will be available on our site in the coming months. 5k finishers do not receive a medal, but finishers of the Karno Kids Races each receive a medallion.
How will awards be presented?
There will be an awards booth next to the finish line where those receiving age group or overall placement awards can be picked up. Once times have become official and posted, you must visit the awards table in order to pick up your awards.
Will all participants receive an event tee shirt?
A high quality technical fabric finisher’s shirt will be provided for both full and half marathon participants. Participants of the 5k will receive a cotton race t-shirt. All shirts must be picked up at the pre-race expo on Saturday the 30th at the San Jose Hilton. Extra tech shirts will be sold at the finish line. Tee shirt will recognize all as a participant of this annual event.
Is there going to be a party after the event?
Post race festivities begin immediately when 5k finisher arrive and will conclude around 2:00pm. All festivities will be held at the Discovery Park finish line. All finisher’s and volunteers are welcome at the party. Around 11:00 is when the post race meal (provided by Wahoos?) will be served to all race participants.
Are there shuttle busses from Los Gatos High School to the finish line?
Shuttle busses will run continuously from the half-marathon finish line at Los Gatos high back to discovery park where the marathon and 5k finish line is, as well as the post-race meal.
Will there be medical support available on the course as well as at the finish line?
We will have first aid available at the start line as well as at various aid stations on the courses. Additionally, we will have a full medical staff at both the half and full marathon finish lines along with an ambulance staged at both locations.
How many aid stations will there be?
There are a total of 10 aid stations on the course, 9 of which will be visited twice by the full marathoners completing the out and back course
Will there be restrooms available throughout the courses?
Portable restrooms will be available at the start line and at number of the aid stations along the half-marathon/marathon course, as well as at both finish lines on race day.
Will there be any massage available after the race?
There will be short complimentary sessions, provided by volunteer massage therapists of the national holistic institute at the finish line.
What type of parking is there available race weekend?
Parking for the Expo is available at the Hilton as well as surrounding paid parking lots. On race day there is paid parking available on all streets and in designated “FOR PAY” parking lots around the start/finish line. Remember the start line is at the corner or Park and Almaden and the 5k/marathon finish is at Discovery Meadow Park
Are there any age restrictions on either race?
There is no age restriction placed on the half marathon. However, you must be at least 16 years of age on race day to participate in the full marathon.
Is there a time limit in which to complete the marathon and half marathon courses?
There is a time limit of 7.5 hours for the marathon. There is no time limit for the half marathon however we encourage all participants to be fit enough to finish within 4 hours. The course will close after 7.5 hours at which point runners will be on their own to navigate the course back to the finish on city sidewalks and abiding by all pedestrians.
What if I can’t finish the race?
There will be SAG vehicles provided by Yellow Cab along the full and half marathon course. If you are unable to finish they will drive you back to the finish area or to the next aid station.
Are the courses “walker friendly”?
Yes, both the full and half marathon courses are walker friendly however; you must be able to complete the full marathon course in less than 7 1/2 hours. Walker start is at 6:00am.
Can I wear headphones during the race?
We do not recommend usage of any audio equipment during the race on either the half or full marathons for safety reasons. However If you want to use an audio device, do so at your own risk.
Are strollers allowed on either the marathon or half marathon courses?
Due to safety concerns no strollers or pets are permitted on the marathon or half marathon courses. However, strollers are allowed for the 5k.
What if I wish to change from the full marathon to the half marathon?
Once registered and confirmed, you may change from the full to the half for free, but there will be no refunds regarding the difference cost in entry fees. If you wish to bump up to the marathon there is $20 fee. Again, there will be no refund for any difference in fees.
If I need to cancel, can I get a refund?
Once registered there will be no refunds on entries allowed. However, in the event of special circumstances we will allow you to roll over your entry to the 2011 event at a small charge. Those requests must be sent to info@svmarathon.com before race weekend. No rollovers will be accepted after completion of the event.

Will I receive a confirmation card after I send in my entry form?
If you register on-line you will receive an email confirmation, please keep a copy of your email for your records.
What if I don’t arrive in San Jose until late Saturday after the Expo is closed?
Packets will be available for those arriving after the Expo closes between 4 and 6pm on Saturday. Please note there is no race morning pick up allowed.
Is there a limit to the number of participants in the marathon or half marathon?
To ensure a world class event we must limit the field to 5000 marathoners and half marathoners total. Registration date/time will be utilized to confirm participants.
How can I purchase official race merchandise?
A limited amount of merchandise will be available at the Expo on Saturday, October 30 and all race gear will be high quality North Face® gear. Any remaining merchandise will be available at the finish line. At this time the only merchandise available are our in training tee and embroidered polo.
