Charities
The Dean Karnazes Silicon Valley Marathon is much more than a running and walking event. One of our primary objectives is to make a difference across the entire Silicon Valley community by raising money and awareness for important charitable initiatives. Our Official Benefiting Charity is The Health Trust. In addition, we welcome groups that raise money and awareness for their particular causes by soliciting pledges in return for the participation of their members in our races

Since its inception 10 years ago, The Health Trust has given away nearly $100 million in community benefit through program services and grantmaking activities aimed at transforming Silicon Valley into the healthiest region in the country. In 2006 MSVM & The Health Trust launched a special Wellness Education & Prevention Fund. Fully 100% of the monies raised for this fund will go directly back to programs that advance wellness in our community, including The Health Trust’s Children’s Dental Services, Healthy Silicon Valley, Aids Services and The Women’s Health Fund; as well as to other select community non-profits.

Funds will be generated via pledges raised by runners, direct runner contributions, and corporate donations.

Girls on the Run of Silicon Valley is a non-profit organization with a mission to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. We use the power of running and combine training for a 5k event with healthy living education. GOTR of Silicon Valley provides after school programs for girls in 3rd-8th grades at locations throughout Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties. Through interactive activities such as running, playing games and discussing important issues, participants learn to celebrate being their unique and real selves.

SoleMates® is the charity running “leg” of GOTR and uses the power of running to make a difference for our girls. Teams or individuals (men and women) can pursue individual goals such as running a marathon or completing a triathlon while raising money to support participants in GOTR. SoleMates® runners who participate in the Silicon Valley half marathon as their chosen event will be treated to a GOTR VIP tent at the half marathon finish line! Runners are asked to raise a minimum of just $262. Click on the links to learn more about Girls on the Run and to sign up for SoleMates®. We hope to see you on race day!

Pancreatica Walks and Runs

Pancreatica Walks and Runs is an initiative of the non-profit Lorenzen Cancer Foundation aimed at forever changing the tragic relationship between human beings and pancreatic cancer.

Our group is dedicated to raising awareness and funds, increasing education and supporting pancreatic cancer research.

Pancreatic cancer is the least funded cancer in terms of research. Despite causing enormous mortality, pancreatic cancer receives (on a mortality basis) much less funding for research than most of the other major cancers.

As a participant in Pancreatica Walks and Runs you can help in the fight against pancreatic cancer - includes coaching, running apparel, prizes and more!

JW House

JW House is a place of welcome and support for families of hospitalized patients being treated in Santa Clara and surrounding areas.

Families faced with long hospital stays often end up living out of their loved one’s hospital room – sleeping in chairs, eating cafeteria food, and going without showers – just so they can be by the patient’s side.

JW House provides a home to families to be together when they need one another the most. Our staff and volunteers work with social workers at nearby hospitals to place families in the house. Our guests are able to enjoy a tranquil, home-like atmosphere while being steps away from their sick family member. We offer low cost overnight accommodations and free day use programs for families.

If you would like to join Team JW House at this year’s Dean Karnazes Silicon Valley Marathon and raise money to help us continue providing a home away from home for families in need, please contact us at
